Science at Hullavington

1(4)

Because science links direct practical experience with ideas, it can engage learners at many levels. Scientific method is about developing and evaluating explanations through experimental evidence and modelling. This is a spur to critical and creative thought. Through science, pupils understand how major scientific ideas contribute to technological change - impacting on industry, business and medicine and improving quality of life.

Pupils recognise the cultural significance of science and trace its worldwide development. They learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives, the direction of society and the future of the world.

Enrichment

Science gives us a fantastic opportunity to engage children with their learning. We take pride at Hullavington in teaching science through fun, practical lessons, such as making ice cream, dissecting flowers or burning food to measure the calories.

We also regularly have visitors to the school such as Zoolab and Mr G who educate and entertain with their scientific demonstrations!

Parents and the Wider Community

2(3)

Here at Hullavington Primary we firmly believe that parents and carers have a vital role to play in helping their children learn about science. The staff will regularly send home science based homework challenges that can involve the whole family. Parents and carers with specialist knowledge are often invited in to share their expertise with the children.
